Well then...

Here it goes.

Hi! I've spent the last few days reading various weight loss blogs, fitness blogs, and decided, I could make myself more accountable to the process by adding my voice. Imagine my surprise when I realized that eating right and exercising, actually works.

In August, I went out West to visit friends and did the touristy thing and saw a picture that made me do a double take - holy gods - I look like a box with a head on the top. I had no neck. I was square. This started me thinking that maybe, just maybe I might have seen a fat girl staring back at me in the mirror. What really tipped the scale (if you'll pardon the pun), followed in September, I got on the scale at the Doctors office and nearly had a heart attack right there. The scale said WHAT!?!!? Oh my god... right there, look there she was staring back at me with what looked like a Twinkie in her hands. The. Fat. Girl. In. The. Mirror.

After talking with my Doctor, getting the results back from the lab work, I did the Phentermine thing, I tracked calories (to the best of my ability) and started walking in the mornings. I lost about 10 pounds and then nothing, I was eating less, I was exercising, I was taking the drugs, but why wasn't the weight falling off? Why wasn't I a skeleton yet? Why exactly did I expect that 35+ years of eating poorly and not moving was going to come off in 35 days?

I talked with a friend who had, at this point lost about 30 pounds the right way and she suggested I go to a Weight Watchers meeting with her. I joined the next week. It really is all about the journey. Changing the way you look at food and your habits. As of right now, I'm 49 pounds from that dreaded day at the Doctor's office (and 39 down from the day I joined Weight Watchers - I'm hoping to lose 100, but I'll be happy wherever I end up), I'm probably in the best shape since I was 18, and every day is a new experience.

As I commented to a coworker - you have to take it one day at a time.
